WHY JOIN THE LONDON UNION?

The London Union Society is a nonpartisan organisation, think of it as a hybrid Debating and Educational Technology platform for Members. We encourage Members to engage with issues, challenges and injustices that are important to them. In order to fulfil their hunger for knowledge within professional and academic development, Members are challenged to exchange a dialogue of diverse and inclusive perspectives. Now the debates may get heated at times, but Members can ponder and evolve their schools of thought, all whilst having fun at our socials. Our aim is to target academically driven students and academics from the University of London and collegiate colleges, irrespective of age, chosen degree or previous work experiences.

ENGAGE WITH DEBATES, PANELS AND KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Observe expert perspectives on domestic and global challenges through impassioned discussions and debates. We present the opportunity for Members to debate amongst experts and celebrities from all five sectors on key domestic and global issues. Members aspiring to engage with debate topics will be invited to attend formal dinners with speakers before debates and post-debate drinks to mingle and hear the afterword. Leading Members that advocate the Union’s seventeen themes will be invited to sit amongst experts and grass-root professionals on panels, to hear why the issue matters to them. Members will have the opportunity for an open floor question and answer (Q&A) session with speakers. Keynote speakers from an array of sectors from leaders to public figures will share the limelight with Members, who eloquently put forward their perspectives and questions.

Members are offered the opportunity to hear from individuals who not only shaped the world but who left an impact on society and a lasting legacy. The London Union welcomes leading experts, professionals and public figures from all sectors to share their experiences and knowledge. Members are supported to learn from our academic and professional development workshops, expanding their competence and autonomy to a justified opinion. Union Members will practice service adding to the academic world, not only progressing with self-development but adding to their communities.

EVOLVE WITH RELATEDNESS

Service to our community with evolving ideals and policies are of the upmost importance to the Union. Members are encouraged to find solutions to current issues that matter to them. Through think-tanks and insights, Members are facilitated to voice their opinions and research on challenging themes such as climate change, gender equality and LGQBTQI+ matters.  The evolution of relatedness with shared altruistic ideals does not stop at our think-tanks but continues to be showcased at our social events. The events include the heavily discounted Winter Equinox Ball in Michaelmas, and the Summer Solstice Ball in Trinity. In addition to a multitude of regular social events, we will be hosting seasonal events including Día de los Muertos and Halloween.
